Highest Yahtzee Score
Highest Possible Yahtzee Score: 1,575 Explained
The highest possible score in Yahtzee is 1,575: thirteen Yahtzees with every bonus. See the box-by-box breakdown, the best score without bonuses and what a good score is.
The highest possible Yahtzee score is 1,575 points. It takes thirteen Yahtzees in thirteen turns, each placed in the best open box: the first scores 50 in the Yahtzee box and the other twelve earn a 100-point Yahtzee bonus each. Without any bonus Yahtzees, the maximum is 375. A strong real game is anything over 250.
How 1,575 adds up
| Box | Roll | Points |
|---|---|---|
| Aces to Sixes | Five of each number | 5 + 10 + 15 + 20 + 25 + 30 = 105 |
| Upper bonus | 105 is over 63 | 35 |
| 3 of a kind | Five sixes | 30 |
| 4 of a kind | Five sixes | 30 |
| Full house | Any Yahtzee (joker) | 25 |
| Small straight | Any Yahtzee (joker) | 30 |
| Large straight | Any Yahtzee (joker) | 40 |
| Yahtzee | First Yahtzee | 50 |
| Chance | Five sixes | 30 |
| Yahtzee bonus | 12 extra Yahtzees × 100 | 1,200 |
Total: 105 + 35 + 235 in the lower section + 1,200 = 1,575.
Highest score without Yahtzee bonuses
If you add the best possible value of every box and the 35-point bonus, but no 100-point bonuses, you get 375: 140 in the upper section and 235 in the lower. Under the joker rules a real game with several Yahtzees would also collect bonuses, so 375 is best read as the ceiling of an ordinary scorecard.
What is a good Yahtzee score?
- Computer-perfect play averages about 254 points per game.
- Most casual games finish somewhere in the 200s.
- Over 300 usually needs at least one Yahtzee plus the upper bonus.
- Without the upper bonus and without a Yahtzee, scores tend to stay below 200.
A single Yahtzee is not as rare as it feels: going for one from the first roll, you complete it in about 4.6% of turns.
How to score higher
- Aim for the upper bonus early. Three of each number is enough, and fours and fives in Fours, Fives and Sixes buy you slack.
- Keep Chance for a bad roll late in the game rather than spending it on a mediocre total early.
- Take a 25-point Full House when it comes; chasing a large straight from a weak start rarely pays.
- Use Aces or the Yahtzee box as a dump for a zero late in the game, not the boxes that feed the bonus.
