Alaska Solitaire is a Yukon game in which you build up or down in the same suit. All 52 cards are dealt into seven columns, 21 of them face down, and there is no stock. Any face-up card can be moved with every card on top of it, even out of sequence. Because a card can go on the next card up or the next card down in its suit, Alaska gives you twice the moves of Russian Solitaire. Choose solo practice, an online race against a bot or an online race against a player.

How to play

  1. Deal as in Yukon: seven columns of 1, 6, 7, 8, 9, 10 and 11 cards, with one to six face-down cards under five face-up ones from the second column on.
  2. Build up or down in the same suit: the Seven or the Nine of clubs can go on the Eight of clubs. Aces and Kings do not connect.
  3. Any face-up card moves with all the cards on top of it, in order or not. Only the bottom card of the group has to fit.
  4. Only a King, with whatever is on top of it, can fill an empty column. Uncovered cards turn face up.
  5. Build the foundations up by suit from Ace to King; cards there stay there. You win by sending all 52 home.

Example

The Eight of clubs ends a column. You can put the Seven of clubs on it, or the Nine of clubs, together with any cards lying on that Seven or Nine. The Seven of diamonds cannot go there: the suit has to match.

Playing tip

Building in both directions lets you rearrange a suit freely, but a long mixed group is hard to break up later. Keep low cards near the top of their columns so they can go home early.

Frequently asked questions

How is Alaska different from Yukon and Russian Solitaire?

All three share the deal and the group moves. Yukon builds down in alternating colours, Russian Solitaire down in the same suit, and Alaska up or down in the same suit.

Can a King go on an Ace in Alaska?

No. The ranks do not wrap: a King connects only to the Queen of its suit, and an Ace only to the Two.

Is Alaska Solitaire free?

Yes. The Alaska Solitaire game opens in your browser with a free account and no download, for solo practice or a race against a bot or another player on the same deal.
